Avengers: Endgame has once again conquered the global box office. Disney and Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame Encore earned an estimated $86 million worldwide during its opening weekend, proving that audiences remain willing to return to the 2019 blockbuster even after years of availability on Disney+.

The re-release collected $26 million in North America and another $60 million internationally, according to Disney. The performance made Endgame Encore the No. 1 movie worldwide for the weekend and one of the strongest re-release openings ever recorded.

Endgame Nears Avatar Again

The latest theatrical run has pushed Avengers: Endgame’s lifetime worldwide total to approximately $2.885 billion. That leaves the film only about $39 million behind James Cameron’s Avatar, which currently remains the highest-grossing movie worldwide.

The new total gives Endgame another opportunity to challenge Avatar for the top position, although how close it ultimately gets will depend on how long the re-release remains in theaters.

The film’s original 2019 run became a landmark moment for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the continued strength of the re-release demonstrates the lasting interest surrounding its conclusion to the Infinity Saga.

Disney Global Distribution boss Andrew Cripps highlighted the significance of the result, saying the performance demonstrates that there is still a “massive fanbase for this franchise.” He also noted that the movie is already seven years old and available on Disney+, making the theatrical opening particularly notable.

The majority of Endgame Encore’s opening weekend came from outside North America, with international markets contributing $60 million. The film opened at No. 1 in several major territories, including China, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Italy, Brazil, Germany and Australia. It also became the top non-local release in Japan and Spain.

The international performance was particularly impressive for a re-release. Disney reported that the film achieved the biggest opening weekend ever for an MPA re-release in numerous territories, including the UK, Mexico, Brazil, India, Indonesia and several European, Asian and Latin American markets.

In North America, the $26 million opening ranks among the strongest re-release debuts. It sits behind the 1997 re-release of Star Wars and 2011’s The Lion King 3D on the domestic re-release opening chart.

Endgame Encore Is Also a Doomsday Preview

The theatrical return is not simply a celebration of Endgame. Marvel is also using the special presentation to promote Avengers: Doomsday, the next major Avengers movie scheduled for release on December 18, 2026.

Audiences attending Endgame Encore receive an exclusive look at Doomsday, turning the re-release into a bridge between the original Avengers era and Marvel’s next major event. The special theatrical presentation is therefore serving both as a nostalgia-driven return and a marketing event for the MCU’s future.

The timing could prove especially valuable for Marvel. After several years of increasingly fragmented MCU releases, bringing audiences back for one of the franchise’s most recognizable cinematic events gives the studio an opportunity to rebuild excitement before Doomsday arrives.

With its latest $86 million worldwide haul, Avengers: Endgame has once again demonstrated that its box-office power has not disappeared. More importantly, the film now sits just tens of millions of dollars away from Avatar, giving the re-release an additional storyline for audiences to follow as Doomsday approaches.
