A new Avengers: Doomsday rumor claims Lewis Pullman’s Sentry may receive significantly less screen time than fans initially expected. According to a report attributed to insider James Mack, Sentry reportedly had a much larger role in earlier versions of the film but has been reduced to having his biggest moments during the final battle.
However, the report remains unconfirmed. Marvel Studios has not announced any changes to Sentry’s role, so fans should treat the claim as speculation until Avengers: Doomsday arrives in theaters.
Why Sentry’s Smaller Role Would Be a Major Change
Lewis Pullman introduced Bob Reynolds, also known as Sentry, in Thunderbolts*. The character became one of the MCU’s most powerful new heroes, but his abilities also came with a dangerous consequence: his dark alter ego, the Void.
Marvel’s official Sentry history describes him as an extraordinarily powerful hero whose greatest threat comes from the Void within him. Marvel also emphasizes the character’s internal struggle, making Bob’s emotional journey potentially as important as his physical strength.

If the latest rumor is accurate, Avengers: Doomsday may save Sentry’s biggest showcase for the film’s climax rather than giving him a major storyline throughout the movie. Previous reports have also speculated that the character could play a role in stopping an Incursion, although Marvel has not confirmed those claims.
A reduced role does not necessarily mean Sentry will be unimportant. Avengers: Doomsday is expected to feature an enormous ensemble, including the Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men, and other major MCU characters.
The reported change could simply mean Marvel is holding Sentry back because his powers are difficult to balance against other heroes. A single major moment in the final battle could still establish Bob as one of the MCU’s most important powerhouses going forward.
Marvel has officially confirmed Avengers: Doomsday for a December 18, 2026 release, with the Russo Brothers directing. Pullman’s exact role in the film, however, remains officially under wraps.
