The ATASHIn’CHI franchise is gearing up to celebrate its 30th anniversary with a new net anime series titled ATASHIn’CHI Next, streaming its five episodes starting from June 5. This new adaptation aims to animate stories from Eiko Kera’s original manga that were not covered in previous anime iterations.
Originally inspiring a TV anime series that aired from 2002 to 2009, the ATASHIn’CHI franchise has seen several adaptations, including films and a subsequent television anime titled Shin ATASHIn’CHI, which aired in 2015-2016. The series has garnered a following, with Crunchyroll streaming the anime for international audiences.
In anticipation of the new anime, the official YouTube channel has been streaming previous series and Shin ATASHIn’CHI with English subtitles since May 2020. Kera, the creator of ATASHIn’CHI, also launched a new manga serialization titled ATASHIn’CHI SUPER in December 2019, reviving the series after its original ending in 2012.
Originally serialized in the Sunday edition of the Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper since 1994, the manga enjoyed a run of 17 years and 10 months before its end. With the upcoming ATASHIn’CHI Next, fans can expect a fresh take on the beloved manga, with untold stories from its extensive source material.
