Kodansha has announced the debut of Ashita no Joe’s first English print, marking a significant moment for one of the most influential manga series in history.
Renowned for its impact on both the sports and fighting genres, this legendary anime and manga will soon be accessible to millions worldwide.
The revelation coincides with the series’ 50th anniversary since its conclusion in 1973, underscoring its enduring popularity in Japan and its profound influence on subsequent manga creators.
Kodansha’s decision to release the English version in December 2024, as reported by ICv2, reflects the longstanding anticipation for such a translation.
Exclusive Deluxe Set: Manga Masterpiece in 8 Volumes
The forthcoming English edition will be presented in a deluxe set comprising 8 jumbo volumes, each encapsulating approximately 2.5 volumes of the original 20. Additionally, a digital option will cater to fans’ preferences.
While the anticipated price of $59.95 may appear steep, it mirrors the exceptional quality synonymous with Kodansha’s deluxe manga prints. Notably, this price estimation by ICv2 may be subject to adjustment upon Kodansha’s release of further details and pre-orders.
Kodansha believes that the manga market is maturing, as well as looking for past manga classics that have never been translated into English.
This work is a true masterpiece that Japan is proud of. […] We consider it an honor and a labor of love to introduce such an important manga masterpiece to a new generation of fans. And we hope that this new edition will be as much of an inspiration as it was when it originally debuted in Japan.
