A student at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs has been arrested on murder charges following a shooting incident in a dormitory that left two individuals dead, the authorities have confirmed.
Nicholas Jordan, 25, originally from Detroit, was apprehended by Colorado Springs police after being located in a vehicle on Monday morning. He is set to appear in court on Tuesday.
The victims have been identified as Celie Rain Montgomery, 26, from Pueblo, Colorado, and Samuel Knopp, 24, from Parker, Colorado. While Knopp was a student at the university, Montgomery was not enrolled there.
Authorities have not disclosed any motive for the shooting, nor have they provided details on how Jordan was identified as a suspect. The police emphasized that the incident appeared to be isolated and not a random attack on the university or its students.
Campus police received reports of shots fired in a dormitory shortly before 6 a.m. on Friday. Upon arrival, they discovered both Montgomery and Knopp deceased, each having sustained at least one gunshot wound.
While the campus went into lockdown following the incident, police clarified that it was not an active shooter situation. However, residents of the dormitory were instructed to shelter in place for several hours.
The investigation remains ongoing, with the El Paso County Coroner’s Office tasked with determining the cause and manner of death. Authorities urge anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigation.
