What Is Are You a Landmine, Chihara-san? About?

Are You a Landmine, Chihara-san? offers a fresh and entertaining take on high school romance and rumors. The story revolves around Kuroki, who ends up sitting next to Mai Chihara, a girl known for her gothic fashion, dark hair, and intimidating appearance. Because of her look, many students assume she is a “jirai-kei” or “landmine girl,” a term often used to describe someone who seems emotionally intense or difficult to approach.

However, when Kuroki gets to know Chihara, he quickly realizes that the rumors are far from the truth. Beneath her intimidating image is a kind and surprisingly sweet girl with a few quirky traits of her own. The series explores how first impressions can be misleading and how rumors often fail to reveal a person’s true personality.

The term “jirai-kei” comes from a modern Japanese subculture and fashion style. Although the term is often linked to girls with emotionally intense personalities, Are You a Landmine, Chihara-san? shows that there is much more to Chihara than the rumors and stereotypes surrounding her.
