Anthony Bourdain’s Get Jiro is officially set to premiere on Adult Swim on October 3, 2026, bringing the late chef and writer’s acclaimed graphic novel to television as a new adult animated series.
The show will debut at midnight ET/PT as part of Adult Swim’s Toonami anime and action block before becoming available to stream on HBO Max the following day. Adult Swim also released the series’ official trailer alongside the premiere announcement.
Produced by Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios, Get Jiro is based on the New York Times bestselling graphic novel created by Anthony Bourdain and Joel Rose, with artwork by Langdon Foss and Alé Garza. The original graphic novel was published through DC’s Vertigo imprint, with the first volume arriving in 2012.
Get Jiro Brings a Violent Culinary World to Adult Swim
The animated series takes place in a post-apocalyptic, near-future Los Angeles where chefs have become the most powerful figures in society. Food is more than something people consume in this world, as it functions as both currency and a marker of social class.
At the center of the story is Jiro, a mysterious sushi chef voiced by Brian Tee, who embarks on a quest for vengeance while steering a brutal society dominated by culinary rivalries. The show’s premise combines Bourdain’s fascination with food and culture with an exaggerated world of violence, power and obsession.
Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen explained why the network was attracted to the project in a statement included with the official announcement.
“We at Adult Swim were huge fans of Bourdain and Rose’s graphic novels, so when our partners at WBA first mentioned it, we were all in,”
Ouweleen said. He added that the story reflects Bourdain’s ability to use food as a starting point for exploring “culture, obsession” and human nature.
The voice cast alongside Tee includes Titus Welliver, Alison Pill and Justin Kirk. Get Jiro was developed by Alessandro Tanaka and Brian Gatewood, who also serve as executive producers alongside Jordan Blum and Sam Register.
With its combination of adult animation, culinary satire and violent action, Get Jiro is positioned as an unusual addition to Adult Swim’s Toonami lineup. The series will premiere October 3 at midnight ET/PT on Adult Swim, with viewers able to watch it on HBO Max beginning the following day.
