“The Last Supper Part Two: Entrée,” the season two finale of And Just Like That, premieres soon after Max unexpectedly renewed the Sex and the City revival series.
The revived series seemed to be preparing for the formal conclusion of Carrie Bradshaw’s (Sarah Jessica Parker) Sex and the City saga when they laid the table for her farewell dinner in her final New York apartment.
Rather, the season 2 finale of And Just Like That establishes several storylines for season 3, all the while providing much-needed closure to story points that have outlived their usefulness. The majority of the episode revolves around Carrie’s Michelin-starred dinner party, as the title suggests.
Along the way, Nya experiences amazing personal and professional developments, Charlotte reminds Harry that he must take the lead in running the house, and Miranda makes an effort to mend fences with both of her ex-boyfriends, Steve and Che.
Other And Just Like That characters are navigating obstacles in the meantime: Seema feels bad about saying “I love you” to Ravi; Anthony is still emotionally aloof; and Lisa is sad about her recent loss.
Along with a much-needed appearance by Sex and the City’s long-missing “fourth musketeer,” And Just Like That carries on the thrilling tale of Carrie and Aidan’s unforgettable relationship from the first season.
And Just Like That Season 2 Ending Explained
Aidan defies the trend by showing up after the dinner party, having spent the whole second season of And Just Like That refusing to set foot in Carrie’s apartment.
In “The Last Supper Part One: Appetizer,” Aidan, who is still rattled from his son Wyatt’s vehicle accident, reports that he will not be moving in with Carrie in her new apartment, which they named “our place” at Aidan’s insistence, since he has “been the constant” in his sons’ lives and cannot change that.
Even though Carrie is aware that Aidan’s primary focus is the boys, she is nonetheless shocked when their talk seems to move toward a breakup. On Sex and the City, Carrie and Aidan famously broke up twice before momentarily reigniting their romance in the 2010 follow-up film.
Despite being hinted at in the previous episode, the duo in And Just Like That season 2 seems certain of their renewed connection, which makes the shift startling. “We won’t be returning here anytime soon,” Aidan tells Carrie before presenting his plan to go to New York with her in five years, once Wyatt has finished his adolescence. Unexpectedly, Carrie concurs.
She committed to letting go of expectations at her dinner party, and Aidan’s situation offered her the ideal opportunity to do so. “This was not an error,” Carrie remarks, pointing at her apartment before addressing Aidan and herself.
While Samantha’s entrance in the And Just Like That season 2 finale has the much-anticipated Kim Cattrall cameo, it has minimal impact on the plot of the show. Carrie gets a call out of the blue as she’s getting her apartment ready for the big event.
Carrie’s expression brightens upon seeing her friend’s name appear, and in typical Samantha Jones style, the publicist from London immediately strikes up a conversation with her. She even makes a nostalgic allusion to the British woman Annabelle Bronstein, whose persona she brilliantly impersonated in season six of Sex and the City.
Samantha was reportedly told about “The Last Supper” by Charlotte and Miranda, which inspired Cattrall’s character to arrange a trip to New York to “pay her respects.”
