Starring Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez, Only Murders in the Building follows an unlikely trio of true crime fans living in an affluent New York apartment building, who attempt to solve the murder of one of the building’s residents and document it on their true crime podcast.
The three amateur sleuths soon find out that real crime solving isn’t as simple or as glamorous as their favourite podcasts make it seem, and that all of their lives are inextricably linked to the mysteries they are pursuing. A Disney official teases the fourth season of Only Murders in the Building in an interesting way.
The third episode of the Hulu mystery-comedy, which was likely the most star-studded yet, centred on the passing of grumpy actor Ben Glenroy (played by Paul Rudd). For most of season 3, Meryl Streep’s character Loretta Durkin appeared to be the main suspect.
But the conclusion unveiled a few surprises and opened the door for a startling new probe. Only Murders in the Building season 4 update from Disney Television Group President Craig Erwich, who also manages Hulu, during the Television Critics Association’s Winter 2024 press tour, where media was present.
The executive comments on the screenplays he has read in the following quote: I can tell you, I’ve read the first four or five scripts for Only Murders [season 4] and they’re incredible.
Can Only Murders Season 4 Bounce Back?
After Ben discovered that Cliff’s mother Donna (Linda Emond) had attempted to poison him earlier, Cliff (Wesley Taylor) killed him by accident, as revealed after Only Murders in the Building season 3. Reviews for the third season of Only Murders in the Building were generally good, however, opinions of the show’s ending and killer reveal were divided.
The idea of how far moms would go to protect their boys was heavily emphasized. Even with Emond’s outstanding performance, Cliff and Donna’s disclosure did not come as a huge surprise.
One of the criticisms was that the revelation was obvious to figure out long before the three main characters—Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short), and Mabel (Selena Gomez)—put the puzzle together, which resulted in a somewhat underwhelming ending. Because the sniper kills Sazz (Jane Lynch), a recurring character, only Murders in the Building season 4 has a chance to survive.
Considering that Sazz is Charles’s stunt double, it’s unclear if Charles was the intended target of the sniper shot. Additionally, there’s a hint that Oliver, Mabel, and Charles might alternate between Los Angeles and New York. Nevertheless, no additional casting or plot hints have surfaced to date, giving fans a taste of what’s to come.
