Innersloth has officially dropped Among Us Story: On Guard, a new narrative-focused spin-off set in the popular Among Us universe. The title was revealed during Summer Game Fest and is confirmed to launch on both Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch. The announcement marks a major shift for the franchise, which is best known for its multiplayer deception gameplay.
Unlike the original game, On Guard introduces a single-player experience centered on storytelling, investigation, and character-driven gameplay. The project appears to respond directly to long-standing fan requests for deeper lore and a more structured narrative within the Among Us world.
A Story-Driven Take on the Among Us Universe
On Guard places players inside the MIRA Research & Development facility, where they take on the role of a security Guard responsible for maintaining order aboard a spaceship. The core objective remains familiar: identify the Impostor before they eliminate the crew. However, the approach is far more narrative-heavy, blending mystery elements with character interactions and decision-making.
The game introduces what the developers call “The MIRA Method,” a structured approach to solving in-game murders. Players must gather clues, complete tasks, and analyze behavior to determine who among the crew can be trusted. The addition of multiple endings suggests that player choices will directly impact the outcome, adding replay value to the experience.
This shift toward storytelling reflects a broader trend in the industry, where popular multiplayer titles are expanding into narrative formats to deepen engagement.
One of the biggest highlights of On Guard is its focus on expanding the Among Us lore. Players will interact with a diverse cast of Crewmates, each with distinct personalities and potential secrets. From the cautious Guard to the seemingly innocent Cook and the eccentric Scientist, the game leans heavily into character-driven storytelling.
The presence of roles like the Doctor, Engineer, and Captain adds layers to both gameplay and narrative, as players must navigate relationships while investigating suspicious behavior. The tension between completing routine tasks and uncovering the Impostor creates a dynamic experience that blends familiar mechanics with new storytelling elements.
By giving players a closer look at life aboard the ship, On Guard aims to transform the simple premise of Among Us into a more immersive universe.

Gameplay Combines Investigation and Classic Mechanics
While the game introduces new systems, it still retains core elements that define the franchise. Tasks remain a central mechanic, requiring players to balance their investigative duties with routine responsibilities. At the same time, accusations and deductions play a key role, echoing the social deduction aspect of the original game.
The narrative structure also introduces a detective-style progression, where players must piece together evidence to build their case. The possibility of multiple Impostors adds complexity, ensuring that each playthrough can unfold differently.
This hybrid approach allows On Guard to appeal to both longtime fans and newcomers who prefer a more guided, story-driven experience.
