In the previous chapter of Amelia’s Contract Marriage, Amelia gets freshened up and quickly sits on the bed to relax. She is happy that the wedding has ended. She has flashbacks of the kiss she received from the Count and is unable to calm down. Meanwhile, the Count loses grip on himself, and his pen falls. He could not believe it was night already, as he had been working throughout the day.
The servant pesters him and asks him if anything has happened. He refuses to say anything. The servant tells him there are eyes on him, so he has to go to the room. To ease the nervousness, he hands him a bottle of wine.
He heads over to his bedroom, and Amelia is surprised to find him. She finds her outfit flashy, so she grabs another robe. Amelia assumes they would have separate rooms. But he said that would imply he neglects her, and people would gossip, and that would mean he breached the contract by not protecting her, and she agrees with his point.
The Count suggests she call him by the name Rubesto, and he will address her as his dear wife. He also lets her know that they’ll be heading over to the Domine country as she has to meet some members of his family and other officials.
He ends up not finishing up properly and falls asleep on the table. Amelia realizes he chugged the whole bottle. She takes him to bed. In a drunk state, he tells her he does not want her to be miserable in their marriage as he has come to cherish her.
