According to reports from Deadline, “The Boys: Mexico,” a new spinoff of the satirical superhero series, is scheduled to premiere. The fourth season of the original Prime Video series has already been renewed, and this Spanish-language program will be its third spinoff.
According to reports, Amazon is creating a Spanish-language spinoff for “The Boys,” their well-liked dark superhero series adapted from the comics by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson.
The spinoff will be produced jointly by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, with Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer as writer.
It is planned to take place in Mexico City, though the exact plot details are still unknown.
The working force behind “The Boys”
Most recently, Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer wrote the script for the DC movie “Blue Beetle.”
Using Kripke Enterprises, “The Boys” creator Erik Kripke, James Weaver of Point Grey Pictures, Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty of Original Film, and actors Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and James Weaver comprise the executive producers.
Deals are still in the negotiation stage, but Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal are anticipated to executive produce under their La Corriente del Golfo banner.
If all goes according to plan, this would be the third series that adds to the “The Boys” universe in addition to the main series, which is slated for its fourth season in 2024.
The first season of “Gen V,” a series about a superhero college run by Vought International, it debuted recently on Prime Video. After its September 29 premiere, the program was renewed for a second season in October.
Amazon is going to have its first local language production
The animated anthology series “The Boys Presents: Diabolical,” which included eight separate stories with many of “The Boys” cast members reprising their roles in voice roles, was previously available on Prime Video.
This also represents Amazon’s latest attempt to broaden the scope of its streaming series by producing content in local languages.
Similar spinoffs for the high-budget spy series “Citadel,” with planned shows set in Italy, India, and other locations, are currently being prepared by Amazon.
As one of Amazon’s most watched streaming original series, “The Boys,” When new episodes of the show were released on the Nielsen streaming charts, it has routinely done well since its 2019 premiere. Eight Emmy nominations have been made for it, one of which is for Best Drama Series in 2021.
What will follow “The Boys”
Preceding an in-universe presidential election, “The Boys” Season 4 will carry on the story that concluded with “Gen V” Season 1. Initial promotional photos for the upcoming episodes of Vought have been made available by Amazon.
They indicate that while Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) and The Boys will be disappointed with their loss, the Vought superheroes, led by Homelander (Antony Starr), will celebrate a successful Election Day.
The pictures show Homelander standing erect amidst red, white, and blue confetti while endorsing vice presidential contender Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit) and presidential candidate Robert Singer (Jim Beaver). Butcher, on the other hand, seems serious as he looks at a floor covered in balloons and confetti.
The pictures tease “The Boys” Season 4, where Butcher, Hughie, and the boys must overcome obstacles in their quest for vengeance against the elusive supe Neuman in the wake of Neuman and Singer’s election victory.
During a recent interview with Variety, showrunner Eric Kripke disclosed that the super-targeted virus that debuted in the spinoff “Gen V” will be a major plot point in Season 4.
Season 4 filming wrapped up before the actors’ walkout in July, and the editing crew is hard at work, putting their current attention on the music and visual effects. The marketing department appears to be preparing as well, suggesting that the Season 4 premiere date will be revealed shortly.
