Justin Hakuta, the former husband of Ali Wong, has filed for joint custody of their two children. Court documents reveal Hakuta’s request for joint legal and physical custody of their daughters, Nikki Alex, aged 6, and Mari Justin, aged 8.
Hakuta did not specify a request for child support but highlighted the intention to address other matters related to their ongoing divorce through mediation.
In December, at the age of 41, Wong filed for divorce from her husband of seven years, citing “irreconcilable differences” in documents obtained by PEOPLE. The couple had a prenuptial agreement in place. At the time, Wong sought joint legal and physical custody of their two children.
This divorce filing followed Wong’s confirmation of her split with Hakuta, also 41, in April of the previous year.
A source informed at the time of the split, stated, “It’s amicable and they will continue to co-parent lovingly.” In a cover story for The Hollywood Reporter in March, the comedian reflected on the experience of having her two daughters accompany her on the road.
“Taking kids on the road is so beautiful. It’s the opposite of film and television where I’m just gone all day,” she explained. “It’s a really fun family adventure because basically at night I’m performing, and then during the day, we go on adventures to the children’s museum or the gardens or we see family friends. It’s cool that they’ve seen so much of America.”
Wong emphasized the significance of her daily routine, highlighting her commitment to being fully present in her daughters’ lives.
“Every single morning I make my kids lunch. I pick them up every day after school. And I go out every night and do a set,” she said.
Wong and tech entrepreneur Hakuta first met at a friend’s wedding in 2010, where they immediately hit it off. They tied the knot in San Francisco on November 27, 2014.
After her separation from Hakuta, the star of “Always Be My Maybe” briefly dated Bill Hader in the fall of 2022. In April, a source confirmed that Wong and Hader, aged 45, had reignited their romance, and the couple has been spotted together on multiple occasions since. In March, Wong emphasized that despite their split, she and Hakuta remain “best friends” and maintain a “really, really close” relationship.
