Adult Swim has announced that Get Jiro, the new animated series based on the graphic novels by Anthony Bourdain and Joel Rose, will premiere on Saturday, October 3, 2026. The series will air at midnight ET/PT as part of Adult Swim’s Toonami anime and action block, with streaming set to begin on HBO Max the following day.
Produced by Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios, Get Jiro takes viewers to a post-apocalyptic version of Los Angeles where food has become the foundation of society. Culinary culture rules the city, and the world’s most influential figures are chefs in a society where food functions as both currency and a symbol of social class.
At the center of the story is Jiro, a mysterious sushi chef voiced by Brian Tee, who embarks on a dangerous quest for vengeance. Adult Swim has also released the official trailer, offering a first look at the bloody and stylized adaptation ahead of its October premiere.
Get Jiro Brings Anthony Bourdain’s Graphic Novel to Adult Swim
Get Jiro was developed by Alessandro Tanaka and Brian Gatewood and is based on the graphic novels created by Bourdain and Rose. The original books featured artwork by Langdon Foss and Alé Garza and were published through DC’s iconic Vertigo imprint.
Adult Swim President Michael Ouweleen explained that the network was immediately interested when the project was discussed with Warner Bros. Animation.
“We at Adult Swim were huge fans of Bourdain and Rose’s graphic novels, so when our partners at WBA first mentioned it, we were all in,”
Ouweleen said.

He added that the adaptation explores more than just food, saying,
“Like everything Bourdain did, this story starts with food and then generously reaches out into all directions to cover culture, obsession, and what makes humanity problematic, but in the end, inspiring.”
Ouweleen described Get Jiro as
“a wildly original, cinematic series”
and said the project felt perfectly suited to Adult Swim. The series joins a growing lineup of animated productions developed specifically for the network and its Toonami block.
Brian Tee Leads the Get Jiro Voice Cast
Brian Tee, known for Chicago Med, leads the voice cast as the sushi chef Jiro. He is joined by Titus Welliver of Bosch: Legacy, Alison Pill from Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and Justin Kirk, known for Weeds.
The series is executive produced by Alessandro Tanaka and Brian Gatewood alongside Jordan Blum and Sam Register. In addition to its Adult Swim and HBO Max release, Get Jiro will also receive a digital release through participating retailers.
With its unusual mix of post-apocalyptic action, culinary warfare, social commentary, and revenge, Get Jiro is shaping up to be one of Adult Swim’s most distinctive animated series of 2026.
