Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 marks a significant step in Nintendo’s renewed relationship with Activision, with both companies working together to promote the franchise’s return to Nintendo hardware. According to Activision chief marketing officer Tyler Bahl, Nintendo is actively supporting the partnership as it looks to broaden the audience for its Switch 2 console.
Speaking to The Game Business, Bahl said Nintendo “has been all in” on the collaboration. He also explained that the platform holder wants to expand its audience by offering more experiences aimed at older players, including major first-person shooters.
The comments arrive as Modern Warfare 4 prepares to bring the long-running Call of Duty franchise back to Nintendo systems for the first time since Call of Duty: Ghosts appeared on Wii U in 2013.
NINTENDO WANTS TO REACH A BROADER GAMING AUDIENCE
Bahl said the companies have already launched a joint marketing campaign to support Modern Warfare 4. He described the renewed partnership as an ongoing effort, rather than a collaboration limited to a single game.
“In a lot of ways, they want to age up their customer and want a broader spectrum by having a first person shooter on there,”
Bahl told The Game Business. His comments suggest that Activision sees Call of Duty as a way for Nintendo to attract players who primarily enjoy mature action games and competitive multiplayer experiences.
Bahl also described the Switch 2 version as a companion experience, highlighting the convenience of playing Modern Warfare 4 while travelling. The game is scheduled to launch on Switch 2 on October 23, 2026, alongside versions for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC

Bahl indicated that the relationship could extend beyond Modern Warfare 4, mentioning Spyro as another franchise that could return in future releases. However, his comments do not confirm a specific Spyro game or release date for Nintendo platforms.
The renewed collaboration follows years without a mainline Call of Duty release on Nintendo hardware, despite the original Switch’s commercial success. Whether the partnership expands will depend on future announcements, but Activision’s comments point to a broader effort to bring its franchises back to Nintendo audiences.
