While promoting her latest Netflix fantasy movie Damsel, Millie Bobby Brown addressed criticism regarding her accent, notably during a recent appearance on The Tonight Show.
In response, interviewer Max Balegde supported her British identity by presenting her with a Nando’s gift card. Brown seized the moment to reaffirm her British accent directly to the camera.
“Let me just speak to that real quick. I’m an actor. I grew up in the public eye. I grew up in America. I come to set and I’m an actor and I adapt, and so I want to mimic other people,” she explained.
“I can’t help that when I’m around my fiancé, or when I’m with people like Jimmy Fallon who have a very American accent, I wanna replicate it! And now I’m in England, I wanna replicate that! I don’t do it intentional, and I’m sorry if it offends you, okay? But listen, I’m trying my best!”
It’s unsurprising that Brown adopted the accent of Jake Bongiovi, the crown prince of New Jersey. Mimicking Jimmy Fallon? If she starts using “dude” and “bud,” we’ll understand why.
