Adele Lim has been chosen to direct the third movie of The Princess Diaries series. She is returning to Disney after working successfully on Disney’s animated 2021 film, Raya and the Last Dragon. Lim recently directed the R-rated comedy Joy Ride by Lionsgate, which received a lot of praise.
Lim expressed how happy she is to be directing a movie that is very close to her heart.
“As a big fan of the original Princess Diaries, I’m extremely excited to be part of bringing the third version of this beloved franchise to life.
We are eager to share the story’s core themes of female power, joy, and mentorship with audiences all over the world,” Lim shared.
What Are The Updates?
Anne Hathaway will return as Princess Mia Thermopolis. However, Julie Andrews has shown less interest in coming back for the third movie.
In 2022, Andrews mentioned that it would probably be impossible for her to join. She explained, “I think it’s probably not going to happen.
It was talked about not long after the second movie came out, but many years have passed since then.
I’m much older now, and so is Anne as the princess or queen. I’m not sure where the story would go from here. I doubt we will be doing it now. I believe it’s too late to make it.”
When The Princess Diaries first came out in 2001, people had only moderate hopes for it at the box office. However, it surprised everyone by becoming a huge financial success and a favorite for many fans.
The movie’s charm has continued over the years, with parents sharing Mia’s journey with their children. It earned an impressive $165.3 million worldwide with a modest budget, making it a big win for Disney.
The success of the first movie naturally led to the sequel, Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, which came out in 2004.
Even though sequels often don’t perform as well, the second movie earned another $134.7 million globally.
It brought in a good return and managed to keep some of the original movie’s magic alive. Stay connected to Otakukart for more news about the royal return to Genovia.
