Netflix’s newest Spanish series, A Perfect Story, is the kind of Romance Comedy that’ll get you all in your mushy feelings. Inspired by the book authored by Elisabet Benavent called “Un cuento Perfecto”, this mini-series was released earlier this year on July 28th, 2023.
At first glance, A Perfect Story isn’t anything different from the countless romance series on Netflix, but when you start watching it, it’s the kind of show that will have you absorbed into the main characters’ love lives. The story centers on a rich Hotel business heir Margot and a normal next-door guy named David. By a fortunate coincidence, they end up becoming friends and decide to help each other get back to their former partners.
However, fate has planned something else for them as they soon realize that they’re each other’s missing puzzle pieces. The cast of this rom-com is made up of Anna Castillo and Alvaro Mel, who play the roles of protagonists Margot and David. Other actors we see in A Perfect Story are Lydia Pavón (Idoia), Mario Ermito (Filippo), and Jimmy Castro (Iván).
A Perfect Story: What Happens In The Final Episode?
As we approach the final episode of A Perfect Story (5th Episode), we see that Margot and David unsurprisingly end up spending the night together, even though they had promised not to be friends with benefits after returning from the Greece Trip.
When David leaves, he invites Margot to a local fest that he thinks could help her loosen up a bit. He even sends her a unique arrangement of flowers with a positive message that increases Margot’s determination to become a strong, independent woman.
The day of the festival arrives, and Margot ends up having a much better time than she had first expected. Moreover, David’s friends seem too inviting and friendly, which helps Margot mix in without any issues. Things take a different turn once Margot reveals that she’s part of the Ortega family whilst having breakfast with the group.
This was the first David had heard of it, and he was taken aback by the sudden revelation. First, he was already kind of insecure, considering how Margot had a proper stable job, and he had nothing going well. Now that David knows she’s going to be inheriting the huge Hotel business one day, it just made him feel much more inferior. Like he wasn’t enough for her in any way.
These feelings trouble David a lot, and when he drops Margot off, he lets her know about his dilemma. In order to test his feelings for her, Margot asks David to stop her from going back to her house if he feels that they could work things out. If he doesn’t stop her, Margot would just assume that things have sadly ended for them.
A Perfect Story Ending Explained:
After Margot places the life-changing choice on David, he ends up torn between what his mind knows and what his heart feels. As Margot leaves for her car, David doesn’t stop her. A heartbroken Margot leaves for her house, but this time, she’s a changed woman.
Soon she starts becoming more career focused and even breaks off things with Filippo. All of the insecurity that Margot had before meeting David was now gone, and she could finally be the real Vice President of the Ortega Hotel Group.
We see Margot making many changes to the company, which eventually leads it to become more successful than ever. The Ortega heir then moves to London and finds herself someone suitable there. While on a trip to Spain years later, Margot runs into her old twin flame, David.
David had always hoped that Margot would come back one day and they could start things afresh, but unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. Margot had come back to extinguish any hope that David had. She meets David at his flower shop named “Come Back, Margarita“, and then says her goodbyes.
In a surprising twist, A Perfect Story then shows its second ending, where David goes after Margot and stops her from leaving him. They start dating for real this time and give their unique relationship a try despite the financial differences. All of the worries were unnecessary, as Margot and David managed to build a beautiful life together. David finally gets a good job and moves away from Ivan’s house.
Margot and David then move to London and start their own Flower shop named “Fly, Margarita,” based on Margot’s birth name. Their relationship worked out in the best possible way and left them with A Perfect Story to tell.
The ending of this Spanish series is left for us to choose. What we, as viewers, would consider “A Perfect Story” would mean. For some, it might be Margot leaving David and becoming better at her own life and finding someone good for her later on. For the rest, and probably the majority of the audience, it would be better if Margot and David ended up together and lived a happy life.
Both endings are valid, as in both David and Margot. People are better people, live the life they always wanted, and are achieving their dreams. However, it’s up to us as viewers how we choose to go ahead with Margot’s and David’s stories. Whether it’s the bitter yet healing reality we’d choose or go with the dreamy yet heartwarming happy ending, You decide your interpretation of what A Perfect Story should be.
All episodes of A Perfect Story are available to watch on Netflix.
