Hatsuharu’s manga “A Girl & Her Guard Dog” is set to hit the big screen in spring 2025 with a live-action adaptation. The film stars Riko Fukumoto as Isaku and Jesse from SixTONES as Keiya.
Directed by Keiichi Kobayashi and written by Yо̄suke Masaike, the film is being produced by Yurika Koike and distributed by TOHO.
The manga series recently entered a hiatus in December to prepare for its “second-year arc” due to the author’s health issues. The return date will be announced later once the author has recovered.
Published digitally in English by Kodansha USA, “A Girl & Her Guard Dog” follows Isaku, who unexpectedly becomes the daughter of a yakuza boss after her parents’ tragic accident. Despite her family ties making her an outcast, Isaku aims to lead a normal high school life and find love.
However, her plans are disrupted by her loyal guardian, Keiya, a chain-smoking, pistol-wielding servant who vows to protect her.
The manga, launched in Bessatsu Friend in December 2018, has nine volumes published in Japan, with the ninth released last September. It also inspired a 13-episode anime series that premiered last September, streamed by Crunchyroll.
Kodansha USA has been publishing the manga digitally since February and has also released Hatsuharu’s “Can I Kiss You Every Day?” manga in English.
