Kaiju enthusiasts were left in suspense when Adam Wingard, the director behind Godzilla Vs. Kong and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire announced he wouldn’t return for the next chapter in the MonsterVerse.
Despite this setback, Legendary Pictures promptly confirmed the series would continue, riding high on the success of the recent kaiju crossover.
The third film’s director has been announced, someone with a strong background in science fiction. Grant Sputore, known for his work on the sci-fi film I Am Mother, has been chosen to fill Wingard’s shoes.
Meanwhile, screenwriter Dave Callaham, known for his work on Marvel’s Shang-Chi And The Legend of The Ten Rings and Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, has been brought on board to craft the new film’s story.
While details about the plot of the third Godzilla x Kong film have not been revealed, the MonsterVerse is expanding beyond just the movies. Apple TV+ has renewed Monarch: Legacy of Monsters for a second season, indicating the continuing popularity of the kaiju universe.
The streaming service also hinted at the possibility of spin-offs within the MonsterVerse, adding further excitement for fans.
No release date has been announced yet for the next MonsterVerse installment, but given the massive success of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, which grossed over $567 million worldwide, it’s clear that kaiju fans can expect more epic battles on the big screen in the near future.
