Comedy has been an ever-prevailing genre to exist, and all we need is sometimes a heartful laugh at the end of the day. Indeed this Canadian Comedy created by Mike Critch is the perfect example of the same. Son of a Critch is all set for the release of its second season after the finale hilarious of season one in April 2022.
The Canadian show follows the story of a young eleven-year-old boy named Mark Critch, which is based on Critch’s own life in his early days. In this semi-autobiographical show, the actual Mark Critch also plays the role of the fictional Mark’s father Mike Critch, who is a reporter for the radio station.
Mark is almost an adolescent growing up in a complicated family in the 1980s in the small town of Newfoundland who is struggling to make friends as he is with his junior high school In St. John’s. He navigates through his school life as he uses his comic timing and the sense to crack self-degradation jokes at the right time to his power and makes use of it to make new friends and be social.
The world of Critch has been portrayed as comical, small, and at many points very limited due to the town being a small one and entails the life of the small town life, which is often peaceful and self-centric. He tries to understand the complicated nature of friendships, teenage, family, and most importantly, love and heartbreaks.
In the year 2018, the making of the show was merely a memoir that was published by Critch about his childhood and early days in Newfoundland and how this affected him later on. Upon reading the memoir, Tim Auliffe suggested that the show should be turned into a whole show in itself. The idea was conceived, and later on, the show was conceptualized and dramatized.
The show has a total of 13 episodes, each filled with a ton of laughter and at many points, is filled with emotional scenes that keep the viewer hooked throughout, leaving them feeling emotionally on a rollercoaster. The first episode of Season One was aired on 4th January 2022.
The show stars Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as young Mark Critch, Mark Critch as Mike Critch, Claire Rankin as Mary Critch (Mark’s Mother), Daisy Harris as Tina and Sophia Powers as Fox the main lead of the show. The show has been produced by Andrew Barnsley and the show has been produced in Newfoundland itself.
