Brought into existence by Bruno Heller and Danny Cannon, the series “Pennyworth” focuses on the life of Alfred Pennyworth, who we all know was Batman’s loyal and caring butler and only father figure once his parents pass away. The show is set in the 1960s, a time before the union of Pennyworths and the Waynes. Alfred (Alfie) is seen as an intelligent British soldier who now aims to set up his own Security company.
The Show first started airing in July 2019 and since then has been adopted for another 2 seasons. It was received well by the audience, with a high rating of around 8 on IMDb. Though it isn’t an exact adaptation of the character from the comic, it’s slightly more tilted towards the Alfred that was seen in Gotham or other Batman Movies.
The third addition to the series was announced soon after HBO Max adopted it on their platform while also adding “The Origin Of Batman’s Butler” to the title. With the 5th episode soon airing this week, the season is almost halfway done. We can hope to see much more of Pennyworth and his tactics to get the chaos around him to calm down for once.
Pennyworth: The Plot Of the Show
After returning from his life as a soldier in the air force, Alfred Pennyworth was now adjusting to his life as a detective for a security firm. Before this, he used to work at a club to gain enough to afford a living. He soon gets discovered by Thomas Wayne, who is Patrick Wayne’s son and Bruce Wayne’s father.
The story also shows Samantha as Bruce’s sister, which was not seen in the comics. Bruce Wayne was considered to be the only child, but changes like these make the show more exciting to watch as we never know what might come next.
This season has focused on a particularly dangerous operation that the CIA has been running. A hypnotic drug has been going around the city, with many people falling prey to it. The drug has also been the reason for a lot of murders, but not much about it is known.
Pennyworth will have drama and mystery unfold now, as it has only 5 episodes left. It is expected to end by November of this year. Whether it will have a 4th season hasn’t been confirmed yet, especially since it’s working with HBO Max starting this season.
A Recap of Pennyworth Season 3 episode 4:
In the previous episode that aired on October 13th, 2022, Titled “Silver Birch,” We got to see that Patrick Wayne asks Pennyworth to help him free his son from jail.
He’s put in there after he tried to kill his wife, Martha. Patrick offers to give him the required 1 million pounds, but he must succeed. This makes Alfred agree and he suggests Thomas may have been drugged.
He goes over to talk to Aziz, but he tells him that for Thomas, the tower is the best place for him. Not listening to him and believing that there’s something else to this, Alfie and Daveboy go over to the tower and manage to escape with Thomas, causing all the police officers to start coming after them.
Alfred takes Thomas to his home, where he meets up with Samantha, his daughter. Thomas then explains that Wayne Enterprises, along with the CIA, was in the middle of making a psychoactive drug in operation called Lullaby State. Martha ends up finding out about it, and that’s the reason they used him to attack her.
When Alfred arrives at Wayne’s house, he gets arrested along with everyone else at the house, though he comes right out shortly after.
