It wouldn’t surprise fans that Earthchild Chapter 28 will be the series’ last chapter. If anything, the fans saw it coming from far away as the story started to dwindle in mid. But this is not to say the announcement didn’t shock anyone, after all, the series was part of the weekly shounen magazine from Shueisha.
The series did have promise when it started in the beginning. And it was evident that the company had faith in the series as they made it a mainstay in the Shueisha. But it was the author who wasn’t ready for the long term, not on this one, at least. Hideo Shinkai is one of the senior authors in Shueisha, he has worked on many series published as one shot or series. Before his debut as a mangaka, he was one of his assistants for Araki for five years. The same Araki who gave us Jojo’s Bizzare adventure.
One of the Shinkai’s most popular to this date is Soul catcher, which ran for three years, from 2013 to 2016. It was his first, second series that was published, before it, he worked on Light Wing. A manga that ran for a year but didn’t fit well with the viewers. However, Light Wing did get an interlude in Light Novel. Manga being written into Light Novel is an accomplishment as only the best have gone the light novel adaptations.

In the last chapter then, chapter 27 provided some form of closure to the series, but it still left many things unanswered, which is not something that could have been achieved with one issue alone. It was understandable when a lot of people were curious about other characters and wanted more. Despite coming to an end, the series still has a strong fanbase that supports the creator’s work. And it is for that reason we are getting chapter 28 and more even though the manga has ended. But they will not be available through Shonen weekly magazine. They will be brought to the readers through different means.
The last chapter opens with Mamoru and his friends on a dangerous mission while away from the earth. Mamoru, his super girlfriend, and the ‘third wheel’ were away dealing with a crisis. And as this is happening, we see a broken headset with one of the characters monologuing and suggesting how things turned out bad for them. On the earth, we see the graduation ceremony being held and the principal discussing what to do about Mamoru but finally leaving a place for him. This leaves the grumpy teacher in a foul mood while seething at the protagonist’s name.
Mamoru did show up later, and we got ‘the couple ending,’ but it left some loose ends. One is what is the deal with the grumpy teacher and how can he not get over his student. And the second one demands the relationship between Mamoru and Karer. A sweet should be included in the third and final volume of manga releases.

Earthchild Chapter 28 Release Date
Earthchild Chapter 28 will be coming out on October 3rd, 2022. The absence of any news on manga has many wondering if the series had ended, which it did. The final chapter will not be coming out as part of the weekly shonen jump. Instead, it will be coming in Earthchild vol 3. Anti-climatic, but this is not the first it has happened, when manga’s popularity sinks, the series is cut short. The last chapters conclude the story coming in a collected series volume. It is a way to make sure that the manga sells and makes some profit for the author and the publisher.
