She got a rare form of blood cancer and her parents did everything in their power to keep her alive. Although, this came at a cost of her remaining in her 8-year-old body and never growing up. Nobody could have predicted this side effect that Shauna had to go through after her various treatment for brain cancer. Now, the fact she has to grow up with a tougher lifestyle than the rest of the kids in America, being rejected to enter bars or clubs because of her age (or what it appears to be) and not being able to find love, is what we see on this reality TV drama.
Shauna has actually become 22 years old but is still judged by her appearance and voice. Last season, we saw her going on a blind date and trying her luck at dating. Even doing day-to-day activities is quite hard for her and this is the part we see her really developing. The thing that hugs her the most is the fact that she is 22 years old and still, her parents are not willing to let her go.
It is obvious that her parents want what is best for their daughter, but to hold her back when she wants a life of freedom, is something that they should also give her. She still feels like a teenager whom she has to ask her parents in order to make every important decision in her life and it is getting annoying at this point to her.
