Well, this year, Snapchat is facing a class-action lawsuit. This legal drama in the platform is doing rounds, and the users are worried about it. Back in 2018, it faced a hideous interface update, and most people were disappointed with the changes. Moreover, Kylie Jenner didn’t like that and made it to her Twitter account, where she discussed how bothered she was with the same. But, this time, the legal chaos appears to be more serious, and the disappointment mass is also quite higher than before. Let’s find out what’s happening.

Snapchat is Facing Class Action Lawsuit: What’s Wrong?
It seems like Snapchat is accused of violating Illinois’s Biometric Information Privacy Act. The platform has been “illegally collecting users” biometric information without taking permission from them. Well, this is wrong. At the beginning of last month, Adrian Cross and Marivel Ocampo filed for the same.
In case you aren’t aware of this entire thing, this is for you. Snapchat offers some facial features. Your face gets scanned every time you click a selfie using your front camera. Even during the usage of filters, the same thing happens. Like every other thing, this platform is also going to face a huge financial penalty if things go wrong or are illegal. The users who have come across this can ask for up to $5,000 for each violation in a civil fine.
But this is the first time that Snapchat is facing a class-action lawsuit. Even last year, the same thing happened on the basis of its speed filter. That filter can be used by people while driving their vehicles. It is very much a practical thing that it made it very unsafe for the ones present inside the car. And guess what happened? Three teenage boys passed away after metering a car accident only for this, showing off their driving speed of 123 miles every hour.
Social media platforms aren’t always for fun. At times, it does add some features which eventually become harmful.
