Our Blues Episode 16 Recap
Our Blues Episode 16 starts with Ok Dong burning some of her old belongings when she is seen by Eun Hee. Among her belongings, there were childhood photos of Dong Seok with her, which Eun Hee forbade her to burn. However, she didn’t pay much attention to it while something unfortunate was waiting to happen. Her garment was about to catch fire. Thankfully, she was saved due to Eun Hee’s presence.
On the other hand, we get to witness a new face in the story. It’s a little girl who is the grandchild of Choon Hee. She listens to her father’s story about the Jeju island, of them being on a boat, and how her grandmother is the Boss over there. It’s a picture-perfect family.
Unfortunately, a tragic incident shattered them. Eun Ki’s father met with an accident, and that’s when her mother decided to take her to Jeju and leave her in her grandmother’s care for two weeks. Meanwhile, Choon Hee and the others have a regular day at the sea. However, her age was becoming an obstacle to staying underwater for a prolonged period.
While coming back, she and Ok Dong noticed a child sitting in front of their house. It was none other than Eun Ki. Her mother has taught her everything she needs to inform her grandmother in case she asks for her son or attempts to call him. Choon Hee already has gone through a lot in her life, her husband and son have left her, and now she won’t be able to handle the news of her only remaining son’s accident.
The relationship between Choon Hee and Eun Ki is quite a watch. When Eun Ki was crying as her mother left her, Ok Dong made her see the reflection of the moon in a bowl, after which she became happy temporarily. However, her grandmother teased her by drinking all the water from the bowl. Even while sleeping at night, when certain noises kept Eun Ki awake, her grandmother told her that if she didn’t practice sleeping alone, then she would tell her mother to never come back to take her. Ok Dong finds such banter quite admiring.
The next morning, Eun Ki wanted to go to the sea. However, since she woke up late, that didn’t happen. Her eating habits were also different from what her grandmother was used to seeing. She likes her fish grilled and not boiled. However, shortly, the question arose of did Eun Ki’s mother abandoned her and was having an affair on the mainland. Choon Hee engaged in a war of words with another woman regarding this matter. Eun Ki wanted her grandmother to carry her on her back. However, her pain didn’t allow her, so she instructed Dong Seok to do it. He pushed it to Ho Shik, who carried her on his back and gave her a ride in the market.
Later that night, Choon Ki and Ok Dong deeply contemplate the fact that it’s been a long time since her son gave her a call. However, she got to know that her daughter-in-law had already left the place where she was working. The episode ends with a confused Choon Hee contemplating over the fact that Eun Ki’s mother truly left her or not.
