The anime adaptation of Iro Aida’s Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun is officially getting a sequel to its second season this July, continuing what has become one of the most visually distinct and creatively reimagined anime projects of recent years. The upcoming season will air on Sundays at 4:30pm JST and serve as a continuation of the rebooted anime’s main storyline.
The announcement follows the conclusion of the second season, which premiered in January 2025 and aired throughout the Winter anime season. Crunchyroll streamed the latest episodes as they aired in Japan, keeping international fans closely engaged. Although a specific release date has not yet been revealed, the confirmation of a July premiere positions the sequel as part of the Spring 2025 anime slate.
The news was shared via the series’ official website and social media channels, along with a fresh commemorative illustration from creator Iro Aida. This new visual serves both as celebration and tease for what’s to come, reinforcing the show’s distinctive mix of supernatural eeriness and vibrant, eye-catching design.
Return Of A Haunting Favorite

Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun originally aired in 2020 with a 12-episode run that earned attention for its stylish presentation and emotionally layered storytelling. Rather than follow up with a traditional sequel, the franchise opted for a “restart,” beginning with a short adaptation of the spin-off After School Hanako-kun in late 2023. That was followed by a four-episode sequel in October 2024, before the main series returned with its second season in January 2025.
The reboot brought back familiar staff from season one, including writer Yasuhiro Nakanishi and character designer Mayuka Itō. However, it was directed by Yōhei Fukui, who previously worked on episode 10 of the first season. His approach, blending subtle horror elements with light-hearted character work, helped the restart maintain the tone of the original while pushing the visual storytelling further.
Where To Watch

The show’s core continues to center on Kamome Academy and its infamous “Seven Wonders.” As Yashiro Nene becomes involved with Hanako-kun, a ghost who haunts the girl’s bathroom, she is pulled deeper into the school’s supernatural web. With every episode, their bond tightens, but the dangers lurking behind the academy’s walls become harder to ignore.
The sequel to Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun Season 2 is expected to stream on Crunchyroll, which also hosted both the reboot and its spin-offs. While the release day in July remains unknown, the confirmed time slot suggests a regular Sunday broadcast. Fans should stay tuned for more details as summer approaches.
