Netflix has officially canceled The Recruit, the popular spy drama starring Noah Centineo, after two seasons. Fans will not see more of Owen Hendricks, the lawyer-turned-CIA agent, as the streaming platform decided not to renew the show. Colton Dunn, who played CIA agent Lester Kitchens, announced the news.
“The Recruit has been canceled, y’all. Such a bummer,” he wrote on Threads. “I’ll share some pics and fun memories on IG, but just wanted you to hear it from me. Thanks if you watched. I’m AVAILABLE NOW! Hire me for your TV story!”
Showrunner Alexi Hawley also shared his thoughts on Bluesky. He reflected on the challenges of creating the series and some of the most memorable moments.
He explained how the show almost did not happen due to the pandemic. “At one point, we were shooting scenes from six different episodes to try and catch up,” he wrote. “On paper, it should have been a disaster. But when we got to the editing room, there was magic in the footage.”
Hawley also praised Noah Centineo for his dedication to the role. He called Centineo a “straight-up movie star who elevates everything he touches.” He also hinted that the story might not be completely over. He expressed interest in a potential movie and stated that everyone would be ready to return if given the chance.

The Recruit Became a Fan-Favorite on Netflix
The show follows Owen Hendricks, a newly recruited lawyer for the CIA. His job initially seems simple, but he soon finds himself caught in high-stakes political threats. These situations put his life in danger and could risk exposing the agency.
In the second season, Owen faces even bigger challenges when he gets pulled into an espionage mission in South Korea. He soon discovers that the real danger might be coming from within the agency itself.
The season finale leaves Owen in an intense situation. He successfully rescues Nan Hee (Lee Sang-hee) from the Yakuza despite receiving little help from the CIA. He also navigates the risks of Russian waters and secures a deal for Jang Kyun (Teo Yoo) to work with the agency.
This opens the possibility of Owen climbing the career ladder after proving his skills in a nearly impossible mission. At the same time, he begins questioning whether the agency is holding him back from dealing with his personal struggles.
Despite the strong setup for future stories, the show will not continue. Fans will not get to see whether Owen embraces his career or chooses a different path.
The Recruit Connected with Viewers Through Action and Humanity
The show delivered fast-paced action, suspenseful twists, and intense spy drama. Noah Centineo’s natural charm added another layer to the character. Unlike his colleagues, Owen always tried to do the right thing, even when it cost him. His relatable struggles made him stand out in a genre that usually features hardened agents.
This unique approach made The Recruit popular among viewers. It reached Netflix’s Top 10 TV Shows and earned an impressive 83% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes’ Popcornmeter.
Fans can still watch seasons one and two of The Recruit on Netflix.
