If anyone thought this episode of Fire Country would be a quiet one, the haunting bluegrass cover of Stand By Me at the start made it clear that something intense was coming. This episode does not focus on a massive fire, but it brings big developments that will shape the rest of the season.
Eve Questions Birch’s Death and Faces Unexpected Roadblocks
Eve (Jules Latimer) and the inmates at Three Rock are struggling to process Birch’s sudden death. Something about it does not feel right to Eve. The more she thinks about it, the more she realizes that the symptoms leading to his death do not match the simple cold he was said to have. She knows that there is more to the story.
Determined to get answers, Eve and Manny (Kevin Alejandro) encourage Birch’s sister to request an autopsy. They believe that only a medical examination will reveal the real cause of death.
However, before Birch’s sister can make the request, Eve receives shocking news—Birch’s body has already been cremated. This makes an autopsy impossible and raises serious concerns about why someone wanted to prevent further investigation.
Even the Department of Corrections representative is surprised by this development. When Eve returns to Birch’s sister for more information, she is told that, legally, Wendy cannot say anything about the situation. This response confirms Eve’s fears—someone is covering up the truth. She refuses to let the matter go and promises the inmates at Three Rock that she will fight for justice.
Eve soon realizes that Birch may not be the only one in danger. When Manny fails to show up for a mandatory crew meeting, she finds him in his bunk, drenched in sweat but without a fever. He has the same illness that Birch had before he died. If Eve does not act fast, Manny could meet the same fate, and his death could also be covered up.

Walter’s Dementia Worsens, Forcing a Difficult Family Decision
Meanwhile, Walter (Jeff Fahey) is dealing with another setback in his battle with dementia. He has been living with the Leones, but his condition is making it harder for them to manage his care. He has already gone through multiple at-home caregivers, and the latest one, Javi, warns Vince (Billy Burke) that they need to consider placing Walter in a permanent care facility.
Vince and Sharon (Diane Farr) are not ready to make that decision. They believe Walter still has more time before he needs full-time professional care. However, Walter soon proves them wrong in the most alarming way possible.
Hours after their discussion, Walter disappears from the fire station. Even worse, he takes Sharon’s car with him. When Sharon realizes what has happened, she calls a silver alert, and the entire team at Station 42 joins the search.
Bode (Max Thieriot) and Audrey (Levin Rambin) find Sharon’s car abandoned on the side of the road, increasing the urgency of the search. Vince and Sharon eventually locate Walter at home. He has no memory of taking the car and believes he was heading to an emergency call in Garnerville.
This moment is a wake-up call for Vince. Walter’s condition is worse than they had admitted, and waiting any longer to make arrangements could put him in danger. The biggest concern now is whether they can afford the level of care Walter needs.
Bode Struggles with Addiction While Gabriela Moves On
Bode is facing his own battle, and it is one he is not handling well. Despite trying to maintain his sobriety, he has secretly kept a stash of pills given to him by an old baseball teammate. Instead of getting rid of them, he has stored them in his locker at work. This is a risky choice, considering that most of the people around him are deeply invested in his recovery.
Bode’s poor decision-making shows why he landed in prison in the first place. However, to his credit, he eventually confesses to Audrey about the pills.
During their first date at a tailgate, he admits that keeping the stash makes him feel like he has control. Audrey, instead of challenging him, finds his reasoning attractive. Her response suggests that she may not be the best influence on his sobriety.
On a more positive note, Bode and Gabriela (Stephanie Arcila) finally have a conversation about their relationship. Gabriela expresses what she needs in order to move forward. This moment is important for her personal growth. She stands up for her emotional well-being, showing strength and self-respect.
As she starts to put the past behind her, a new romantic prospect enters the picture. Gabriela meets Finn (Blake Lee) during a call. He is a caring neighbor looking out for an elderly woman who is a hoarder. Later, Finn visits the fire station with baked goods and shares a lighthearted moment with Gabriela. His interest in her is clear, and the connection feels fresh and promising.
Gabriela choosing to move on is an exciting development. While her relationship with Bode has had its moments, she is ready for something new. Finn seems like a kind and thoughtful person, making him a great potential match for her.
