The Has Fallen franchise has built a reputation for combining large-scale destruction with political drama, always with Gerard Butler’s Agent Mike Banning at the center of the action. After three intense films, the franchise took a new direction in 2024 by launching a television spinoff, Paris Has Fallen.
Created by Howard Overman, this Canal+ original drama follows a protection officer who teams up with an MI6 unit after a terrorist attack, only to uncover a much larger conspiracy. The first season was well received, leading to confirmation of a second season, which has now received a major update.
Season 1 ended in late 2024, and according to a report by Deadline, Canal+ CEO Maxime Saada has confirmed that Paris Has Fallen Season 2 is now in production. The new season is currently being filmed in the UK, though there is no official filming schedule or release date yet. While discussing the success of the show, Saada shared:
“Studiocanal’s first-ever global TV series Paris Has Fallen, based on the successful Has Fallen film franchise, was a smashing success in all Canal+ pay-TV territories, as well as on Amazon Prime in the UK and Hulu in the United States. It will naturally be followed by a second season now shooting in the UK.”
This series marks the first television project in the Has Fallen franchise, which includes Olympus Has Fallen (2013), London Has Fallen (2016), and Angel Has Fallen (2019). Although Gerard Butler’s character, Mike Banning, does not appear in the show, Butler is actively involved as a producer.
The series stars Tewfik Jallab as Vincent, the head of security for French Defense Minister Philippe Bardin, played by Nathan Willcocks. Ritu Arya plays MI6 agent Zara, while Sean Harris takes on the role of Jacob Pearce, the chief terrorist. Other cast members include Ana Ularu and Paul Grorstidi.
Ritu Arya Focused on Bringing Realism to Her Role
While Paris Has Fallen shares a title with the film franchise, the stories are different. The movies focused on a single protagonist, Agent Banning, but the television series follows both Vincent and Zara as they work together to prevent deadly threats.
Given the nature of her role as an undercover MI6 agent, Arya took her preparation seriously. She spoke with a real-life spy to better understand the challenges of the job. While speaking with Collider, Arya shared:
“How realistic it was to be torn with how you can’t tell anyone. Zara is keeping it a secret from her partner, and how, actually, that’s what she had to do herself, and navigating that. It just made it all feel a lot more grounded. Those questions, I was like, ‘Of course, that wouldn’t be the case…’ And she was like, ‘Nah, that’s what I went through.’”
All episodes of Paris Has Fallen Season 1 are available for streaming on Hulu in the United States.
