Fans of The Last of Us have waited a long time, and now the wait is almost over. HBO has officially announced that The Last of Us Season 2 will premiere on Sunday, April 13, at 9/8c. Viewers have been eager to see what happens next in Joel and Ellie’s story, and now they finally have a date to look forward to.
The show has always been filled with danger, emotional struggles, and terrifying creatures. Season 2 will bring even more challenges as characters fight for their lives.
One of the biggest changes will come with the introduction of Abby Anderson, played by Kaitlyn Dever. Abby is a character that has sparked many discussions among fans, and her arrival will change the story in major ways.
How Season 1 Ended and What’s Next
Season 1 ended on a shocking note. Joel, played by Pedro Pascal, made a heartbreaking choice when he rescued Ellie from the Fireflies. The group wanted to use Ellie to create a cure, but doing so would have cost her life. Joel refused to let that happen and eliminated the Fireflies at the hospital to save her.
The most painful part of this decision was the secret Joel chose to keep. When Ellie, played by Bella Ramsey, asked if a cure was ever possible, Joel told her there was no hope for one. His lie created a deep crack in their relationship, and this will play a huge role in Season 2.
HBO’s official synopsis reveals that the story will move forward by five years.
“After five years of peace following the events of the first season, Joel and Ellie’s collective past catches up to them, drawing them into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind.”
Joel and Ellie will remain in Jackson, Wyoming, living in a community led by Tommy, played by Gabriel Luna, and Maria, played by Rutina Wesley. However, their peace will be shattered with the arrival of Abby. Her presence will bring intense conflict and change their world forever.
How Much More of the Story Is Left?
Fans have wondered how long The Last of Us series will continue. HBO’s Head of Drama, Francesca Orsi, recently shared some insights. While attending The White Lotus premiere, she revealed that the team behind the show has a clear plan.
“We don’t have a complete or final plan, but I think it’s looking like four seasons. I wouldn’t want to confirm that, but it’s looking like this season and then two more seasons after this and we’re done.”
This means that even after Season 2, there will be more story left to tell. Fans can expect at least two more seasons before the series reaches its conclusion.
