The sixth movie in the well-known Insidious series was originally set to release this summer. However, according to Variety, it will now arrive next year.
Sony has decided to give the original August 29 release date to Caught Stealing, a crime thriller directed by Darren Aronofsky and starring Austin Butler. Because of this, Insidious 6 will now release on August 21, 2026. There are no further details yet, including its official title.
What We Know About Insidious 6
Since May 2024, it has been confirmed that a new chapter in the Insidious series is in progress. The cast has not been announced yet, but fans can hope for Patrick Wilson’s return. He played a key role in The Red Door, the most recent film in the series.
Wilson has been part of the franchise since the beginning and appeared in the first two films. He also directed The Red Door, which premiered on July 7, 2023. The movie became a major success, earning $189 million worldwide on a budget of just $16 million.
The Insidious franchise was created by Leigh Whannell and James Wan. The first movie, Insidious, was released in 2010. It was followed by Chapter 2 in 2013 and Chapter 3 in 2015. Later, The Last Key hit theaters in 2018, before The Red Door arrived in 2023.
Blumhouse and Sony’s Stage 6 Films have produced the series. The franchise has gained a massive following and has made over $731 million worldwide with a total budget of $42.5 million.
What Is Caught Stealing About?
Sony has now scheduled Caught Stealing to take the summer release slot that was originally meant for Insidious 6. This upcoming crime thriller has a star-studded cast led by Austin Butler.
The film also features well-known actors, including Bad Bunny, Action Bronson, Vincent D’Onofrio, Zoë Kravitz, Liev Schreiber, Griffin Dunne, Matt Smith, and Regina King.
Caught Stealing is based on a book series by Charlie Huston, who also wrote the film’s script. The official story summary says:
“Burned-out ex-baseball player Hank Thompson (Butler) unexpectedly finds himself embroiled in a dangerous struggle for survival amidst the criminal underbelly of 1990s New York City, forced to navigate a treacherous underworld he never imagined.”
When this project was first announced in March 2024, director Darren Aronofsky shared his excitement with Variety.
He said he was happy to work again with his longtime partners at Sony Pictures and to bring Charlie Huston’s thrilling story to life. He also expressed enthusiasm about working with Austin Butler and his trusted team of filmmakers from New York City.
Fans of horror will have to wait until 2026 for Insidious 6, while Caught Stealing is set to hit theaters this summer.
