Gemma Burgess, the creator and co-showrunner for Prime Video’s “My Lady Jane,” has commented on the potential for the historical fantasy show to be renewed for a second season.
The series, which is based on the novel by Brodi Ashton, Cynthia Hand, and Jodi Meadows, premiered to strong reviews and currently holds a 93% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
“My Lady Jane” reimagines the story of Lady Jane Grey, the “Nine Day Queen,” set in a Tudor England that is deeply divided by the existence of shape-shifting Ethians.
Burgess remains optimistic about the show’s future, noting the positive reception and the rich source material that could further expand the storyline in future seasons.
Gemma Burgess discussed the potential for a second season of “My Lady Jane.” She explained that the development of the first season was focused on bringing the audience to the brink of seeing Emily Bader’s Jane nearly beheaded.
Although no decision has been made about a second season, Burgess revealed that if the show is renewed, it would explore how an escaped Jane survives in a world where Mary (played by Kate O’Flynn) is on the throne.

A second season is always a possibility. We wanted to really lean into the visual storytelling of taking a woman up to the point of being beheaded.
It seemed like an opportunity too good to pass up. I used to be an author. When youre an author, you can do an awful lot of first person present tense thinking, but when you are on television, you have to have conflict and action and something to look at to lead to the drama.
If we are fortunate enough to get a season 2, then we are going to be exploring all of them growing up and moving on and figuring out how to survive in the world where Jane is free, but the kingdom is not. Because Marys still on the throne. Theres a lot more work to do before things are right.
