The two have had quite a rivalry between them going on, and a good amount of build-up for that. Traumerei does everything in his power to downplay Gustang, and Gustang reacts to all the insults that are hurled his way.
Gustang was wrongly accused and was sent to jail due to the framing by none other than his opponent. However, we have seen in the past chapters how overpowered Traumerei is with his sword and ability to cut through anything. It was thanks to that ability(and a bit of research) that Traumerei was able to win every fight.
Gustang manifested all sorts of fish to hurl at his opponent only for all of them to be cut by Traumerei. Traumerei enjoyed this exchange and made a fool of Gustang by throwing remarks to his amusement to the other guy. But this only made the green-haired ex-prisoner pull out his strongest move yet.
Traumerei’s trick is to cut through anything that he understands, so the countermeasure Gustang picked was to make something he didn’t. However, his swords were still able to cut through the things that came his way, with ease. Traumerei took it upon himself to shame Gustang but he made a mistake by closing in the distance, for Gustang pulled out his trump card.
