The 27th film in the Detective Conan series, The Million-dollar Pentagram, has become a major success in Japan, selling over 10.52 million tickets and earning 15.05 billion yen (around $94.23 million) within 73 days of its release.
This achievement has made it the 15th highest-grossing film and the ninth highest-grossing anime film in Japan, surpassing Makoto Shinkai’s Suzume.
It now stands just below Hayao Miyazaki’s Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea, which earned 15.5 billion yen.
The film has also set a new record within its franchise, outperforming last year’s Iron Submarine, and is the first franchise to have two consecutive films gross over 10 billion yen.
To celebrate this milestone, the film’s official website released a special visual, and original manga creator Gōshō Aoyama created an illustration.
The film’s impressive performance included ranking #1 during its opening weekend, where it sold over 2.27 million tickets and earned about 3.35 billion yen (around $21.7 million) in just three days.
The theme song for the film, Soshi Sōai (Mutual Love), is performed by AIKO, adding to its popular appeal.
