At the Annecy Animation Festival, Warner Bros. Animation, New Line Cinema, and Sola Entertainment announced that Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh are executive producers for The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, directed by Kenji Kamiyama.
This new feature film, inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien’s appendices, focuses on the legendary King Helm Hammerhand of Rohan.
The runtime is confirmed at 2 hours and 30 minutes. The film was initially set to release in April 2024 but has been delayed to December 13, 2024.
The film boasts an impressive cast, including Brian Cox as Helm Hammerhand, Gaia Wise as Hera, and Luke Pasqualino as Wulf.
Miranda Otto reprises her role as Éowyn and narrates the film. Additional cast members include Lorraine Ashbourne, Yazdan Qafouri, and Laurence Ubong Williams, among others.
The story explores the complexities of power, lineage, and the harsh realities of war, aiming to provide a deeper understanding of Rohan’s history.
Joseph Chou is producing, with Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews writing the screenplay. Philippa Boyens serves as a consultant, bringing her expertise from the previous Tolkien trilogies.
