Saquon Barkley, the Philadelphia Eagles running back, encountered the ire of New York fans during a recent appearance at a New York Knicks game.
Attending the game alongside new Eagles teammate A.J. Brown, Barkley witnessed the Knicks’ victory over the Philadelphia 76ers in Game 6 of the playoffs.
Sitting courtside, Barkley faced boos from Knicks fans still resentful over his decision to leave the New York Giants and join their NFC East rivals, the Eagles.
In response, Barkley took to Twitter, expressing his disbelief at the lingering resentment. Despite the backlash, he defended his choice to join the Eagles, citing personal reasons and excitement for the upcoming season.
Saquon Barkley Has A Message For New York Sports Fans
Barkley’s departure from the Giants, though reasoned, remains a sore point for many New York fans, who view him as a turncoat for joining a rival team. Knicks announcer Walt “Clyde” Frazier even referred to Barkley as a “turncoat” during the MSG broadcast.
Ironically, Barkley found himself supporting the 76ers, his new city’s team, against his former city’s team, the Knicks, in the first round of the NBA playoffs.
Despite the disappointment of the 76ers’ elimination, Barkley remains optimistic about his future with the Eagles, looking forward to the upcoming NFL season and the opportunity to contribute to the team’s success.
