Observing anime collaborations and crossovers can often be an intriguing experience. It typically works seamlessly when the series involved share a common creator or belong to the same genre. However, when the series comes from vastly different creators or genres, the outcome of the crossover can be uncertain.
Yet, when such crossovers do succeed, it’s a delightful surprise. A recent example of this was the crossover short video between The Dangers in My Heart and Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- (Re:Zero).
Both official X (formerly Twitter) accounts for The Dangers in My Heart and Re:Zero announced this crossover on February 20. Each tweet showcased the female characters Anna Yamada (voiced by Hina Yomiya) from The Dangers in My Heart and Rem (voiced by Inori Minase) from Re:Zero donning each other’s outfits.
In addition to the original artwork, a short collaboration anime was uploaded to NUMAnimation’s YouTube channel on February 20. This featured The Dangers in My Heart’s Kyotaro Ishikawa and Anna Yamada alongside Re:Zero’s Rem having an unexpected encounter in Ikebukuro.
The narrative revolves around Ishikawa and Yamada’s visit to a collaboration café in Ikebukuro, where they unexpectedly bump into Rem, whom Ishikawa mistakes for a cosplayer. The trio then proceeds to the Sunshine building for a cosplay event, during which Yamada dresses up as Rem.
The story concludes with Ishikawa pondering over Rem’s identity, while Rem teasingly refers to Ishikawa and Yamada as love-birds, echoing her catchphrase from Re:Zero.
This collaboration between The Dangers in My Heart and Re:Zero is charming and well-executed. While it would have been interesting to see characters like Rem’s sister Ram or Emilia from Re:Zero included to add a comedic dynamic, the existing content is enjoyable.
Unfortunately, it seems this short is a one-time occurrence, implying that further interactions between these characters are unlikely. Nonetheless, fans of The Dangers in My Heart or Re:Zero would appreciate checking out this video.
