NHK has revealed the lineup for its latest serialized TV novel, Anpanman, marking the newest addition to its renowned Renzoku Terebi Shōsetsu franchise, also known as “Asadora” or Morning Drama. Inspired by the remarkable life of Takashi Yanase, creator of the beloved character Anpanman, the upcoming live-action weekday morning series promises to enthrall audiences with its heartfelt narrative.
Leading the cast is Takumi Kitamura, known for his roles in the live-action Tokyo Revengers films and the Yu Yu Hakusho Netflix series, who will portray the young Takashi Yanase. Joining him is Mio Imada, acclaimed for her performance in live-action Tokyo Revengers, taking on the role of Nobu Asada. Together, they will bring to life the formative years of Takashi and Nobu, chronicling their journey from childhood to the inception of Anpanman.
Behind the scenes, Miho Nakazono will craft the series’ script, while Ken Kurasaki takes on the role of chief producer, ensuring a compelling portrayal of Yanase’s life and legacy. Set to premiere in spring 2025, Anpanman promises to offer viewers an intimate look into the personal and creative struggles that shaped the iconic manga creator’s journey.
This announcement comes on the heels of NHK’s previous endeavors, including the television biographical anime special Yūki no Hana ga Hiraku Toki: Yanase Takashi to Anpanman no Monogatari, which aired in February 2019. Yanase’s enduring legacy extends beyond the pages of Soreike! Anpanman, with the beloved character, brings in audiences worldwide and inspires a multitude of adaptations, including an ongoing anime series and numerous films.
As NHK continues its tradition of showcasing compelling stories through its Renzoku TV Shōsetsu franchise, Anpanman is poised to charm audiences with its heartfelt narrative and stellar performances. With each episode promising to offer a peak into the life of a legendary manga creator, Anpanman is sure to leave a lasting impression on viewers across generations.
