On Tuesday, the team behind the Hollywood live-action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s acclaimed manga “One Piece” revealed that Joe Tracz (known for his work on “Percy Jackson and the Olympians”) will be joining the second season of Netflix’s series as a writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner.
Tracz will be collaborating with Matt Owens, who served the same roles in the first season of the show. Additionally, Steve Maeda, co-showrunner for Season 1, will now take on the role of executive producer.
According to Deadline, filming for the second season is scheduled to commence in June, with an anticipated release date set for 2025.
The live-action adaptation made its debut exclusively on Netflix in August last year, featuring eight episodes instead of the initially announced ten. Its success was evident as it topped Netflix’s global English-language television rankings for three consecutive weeks following its release.
Furthermore, the series received accolades, notably winning an award at the 2024 Writers Guild Awards in the “Children’s Episodic, Long Form and Specials” category. Although nominated for Best Hair Styling in the Children and Teen Television Programming category at the 11th annual MUAHS Awards, it did not secure a win.
Produced by Tomorrow Studios, a collaboration between producer Marty Adelstein (“Prison Break,” “Teen Wolf”) and ITV Studios, the live-action adaptation also saw Becky Clements serving as an executive producer alongside Maeda.
