Pixar has many hit movies, from recent ones like Elemental and Turning Red to classics like Toy Story and The Incredibles. One standout is Pete Doctor’s 2015 film Inside Out, loved by both fans and critics. It touched hearts with its honest look at children’s emotions.
This makes people laugh and feel at the same time. Now, eight years later, excitement is building for its sequel. Fans are eager, showing how much they loved the first movie. Here’s what we know about Inside Out 2 so far.
At the end of Inside Out, Joy sees a button labeled puberty but doesn’t press it. This sets the stage for Inside Out 2. The sequel takes us back into Riley’s mind as she becomes a teenager. Headquarters is getting revamped with new Emotions: Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust. We aren’t sure what to make of the new addition, Anxiety.
Release Date
Inside Out 2 will hit theaters exclusively on June 14, 2024. This is nearly nine years after the first movie came out, and summer is a great time for big Disney releases. No other movies are set to premiere that weekend.
However, it will be up against Sony Picture’s Bad Boys 4. The sequel was announced in September 2022 at the D23 Expo, where many new projects were revealed. The announcement was also confirmed with a tweet.
Inside Out 2 will first be shown in theaters and later become available on Disney+. This way, both moviegoers and streaming fans can enjoy it. A popular movie like Inside Out 2 deserves to be seen on the big screen.
Cast
The original Inside Out had a great cast, and fans are excited to see who’s coming back for the sequel and who the new voices will be. Amy Poehler will return as Joy, Phyllis Smith as Sadness, and Lewis Black as Anger.
However, Mindy Kaling and Bill Hader won’t be back as Disgust and Fear due to contract issues. Liza Lapira and Tony Hale will take over those roles. Maya Hawke from Stranger Things will voice a new emotion, Anxiety. We don’t know yet who will voice the other new emotions.
Plot
Just as the first movie explored the emotions of an 11-year-old, the sequel will get into the challenges of being a teenager. This time, the movie tackles the pivotal teenage years, a time filled with intense emotions. With the growing conversation about mental health, Inside Out 2 promises to be a meaningful film.
At Disney’s CinemaCon 2024, Collider’s Britta DeVore saw the first 35 minutes of the movie. In this part, 13-year-old Riley faces typical teen issues like growth spurts and braces. Her emotions help her navigate these changes and continue her hockey passion.
But when puberty hits, the control room faces chaos. With new emotions like Anxiety, Envy, Embarrassment, and Ennui, Riley navigates adolescence, making new friends along the way.
