Three sons of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh perished in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza, confirmed by both Hamas and Haniyeh’s family.
The Israeli military acknowledged targeting the three sons, identified as members of Hamas’ armed wing. The fatal incident occurred when the car carrying Haniyeh’s sons—Hazem, Amir, and Mohammad—was bombed in Gaza’s Al-Shati camp, where four of Haniyeh’s grandchildren also lost their lives, as reported by Hamas.
While the Israeli military refrained from commenting on the deaths of the grandchildren, the strike compounds the already intense tension in the region.
Haniyeh, residing abroad in Qatar, has been actively involved in Hamas’ diplomatic endeavors amid the ongoing conflict with Israel. Expressing resilience amidst personal tragedy, Haniyeh emphasized that the lives of his sons are no more valuable than those of the Palestinian people.
The family members were visiting their home refugee camp in Gaza City during the Muslim Eid al-Fitr holiday, seeking solace amidst the turmoil.
As ceasefire negotiations continue, Hamas remains steadfast in its demands for an end to Israeli military operations and the right of displaced Palestinians to return home.
Haniyeh’s eldest son confirmed the tragic loss through a poignant Facebook post, honoring his brothers’ martyrdom.
Despite being labeled terrorists by Israel, Haniyeh and Hamas face complex diplomatic challenges, including communication with allies like Iran.
