My Hero Academia gets into complex family dynamics, showcasing both strained and thriving relationships. Among the standout moms is Inko, whose strength shines through. However, there’s another mother figure deserving of admiration—All Might’s mother, who played a pivotal role in shaping the Symbol of Peace.
The latest volume of My Hero Academia, Volume 40, offers readers a sneak peek into All Might’s childhood through special sketches shared by series creator Kohei Horikoshi. One particular sketch depicts a young Yagi alongside his mother, shedding light on their close bond.
In the artwork, a youthful Yagi, barely reaching his mother’s hips, exudes determination with a familiar heroic pose. Behind him stands his mother, mirroring his gesture of strength and resolve. Her long blonde hair tied back, she radiates support for her son’s aspirations to become a hero.

It’s evident that All Might’s dream of heroism was nurtured from a young age, fueled by his mother’s unwavering encouragement. While his teacher, Nana Shimura, played a significant role in honing his abilities, it’s clear that All Might’s confidence and determination were instilled by his mother’s steadfast belief in him.
Although Volume 40 of My Hero Academia has yet to be released stateside, fans can easily access the manga through platforms like Manga Plus and the Shonen Jump app.
“Izuku has dreamt of being a hero all his life—a lofty goal for anyone, but especially challenging for a kid with no superpowers. That’s right, in a world where eighty percent of the population has some kind of super-powered ‘quirk,’ Izuku was unlucky enough to be born completely normal. But that’s not enough to stop him from enrolling in one of the world’s most prestigious hero academies.”
