Kristen Wiig, known for her role in “Palm Royale,” graced the “Saturday Night Live” stage for the fifth time this weekend. In the customary induction ritual, she was welcomed into the esteemed “Five-Timers Club” during a cameo-filled monologue.
What made this induction unique was the surprise appearances by stars who aren’t official members of the club, reserved for those who have hosted “SNL” five times.
The first to join Wiig onstage was Paul Rudd, a member of the club since his fifth hosting stint in 2021. Sitting in the audience, Rudd sported his iconic Five-Timers Club jacket.
“I also heard a rumor that you might be doing one of those five-timers sketches featuring awesome celebrity cameos,” Rudd said. “So is there a script or something I could look at for that?”
After Wiig jokingly declined to partake in one of the sketches, former “SNL” writer Paula Pell made a surprise appearance, playfully reminding Wiig that the Five-Timers Club jackets are as commonplace as “free maxi pads.”
To prove her point, Matt Damon strutted onto the stage sporting one of the coveted jackets, despite only hosting “SNL” twice.
Damon teased that according to Lorne Michaels, his first hosting gig was so stellar, it counted for three, while the second only tallied up to two, but hey, that’s five in total, right?
Wiig couldn’t help but question the significance of the Five-Timers Club jacket amidst the playful banter.
The scene then transitioned to Michaels flanked by Fred Armisen, Jon Hamm, Will Forte, and Martin Short, all proudly donning the jackets despite not reaching the five-time milestone individually.
Forte quipped, “Together, we’ve hosted five times,” sparking laughter from Michaels and the audience.
Tina Fey Welcomes Emma Stone
The star ascends to the ‘SNL’ Five-Timers Club.In a heartwarming finale, all the celebrities gathered onstage to serenade Wiig into the club with a song.
Just when it seemed the surprises were over, Ryan Gosling made a last-minute cameo, questioning the fairness of joining as he hadn’t even hosted three times yet (his third hosting gig scheduled for April 13).
Despite his reservations, Gosling was the one to officially present Wiig with her coveted jacket.
Emma Stone, most recently initiated into the “SNL” Five-Timers Club in December, received a warm welcome from Tina Fey. Recent additions to the club include Woody Harrelson and John Mulaney.
Kristen Wiig Returns As Aunt Linda To Review ‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’
Later in the show, Wiig delighted fans by reviving one of her beloved “SNL” characters: Aunt Linda, a character known for her bewildered and exasperated reactions to various movies.
During Weekend Update, Wiig’s Linda shared her unique perspective on some of the biggest films of the past year, kicking off with “Barbie.”
“I didn’t get it!” she declared. “Is she a doll that comes to life? It doesn’t make any sense. And where are they, on the moon?”
Wiig’s Linda proceeded to critique Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer,” the Oscar-winning best picture of the year. With her trademark wit, she quipped, “Directed by Christopher No Thanks.
Why in the world would anyone bother making a movie about the person who invented the microwave?”
Linda didn’t stop at movies; she also dished out some TV criticism with a review of “The Bear.”
Expressing her trademark bewilderment, she pointed out the “very misleading title” and lamented the chaotic state of the kitchen, describing it as “unorganized” and “understaffed.”
“Why is he so upset?” she also asked. “He found a bunch of money in the tomato sauce. And what the heck is Kenergy?”
Kaia Gerber Makes A ‘SNL’ Cameo In ‘Pilates’ Sketch
Other standout moments from the episode featured a mock movie trailer that hilariously portrayed a Pilates class as a “Saw”-style horror film.
Wiig took the lead as the instructor, delivering comedic brilliance, while Kaia Gerber made a cameo appearance.
“Usually, there are eight gorgeous women, one gay man not wearing underwear, and sometimes, Kaia Gerber,” Sarah Sherman’s character said while describing the Pilates class before Gerber appeared and declared, “This is randomly so easy!”
