In “Parasyte: The Grey,” we are introduced to a universe in which extraterrestrial parasites descend from space and start to dominate the human population. The parasites invade the body of their human host and transform it into a hideous beast that feeds on other people.
Their capacity to pass for regular individuals while cooperating as sentient beings and learning from the brains they control is their greatest asset. The South Korean Netflix series centers on Jeong Su-in, who is involved in a vehicle accident and is saved from certain death by an ear parasite.
Nevertheless, the parasite is unable to take control of her intellect in any way, and the two are able to converse while coexisting in the same body. When other alien parasites learn about their peculiar circumstances and perceive it as a threat to their race, their coexistence turns into codependency.
Jeong Su-in will be essential to reversing the situation as a competent group known as the Grey leads an operation against the alien menace that is disguising itself. Renowned South Korean director Yeon Sang-ho co-wrote and directed the action sci-fi horror series, which is based on Hitoshi Iwaaki’s Japanese manga series “Parasyte.”
The show’s metropolitan South Korean setting and its rural beginning, where Jeong Su-in’s story takes place, will probably pique viewers’ interest in the actual places featured. The Seoul Metropolitan Area in South Korea serves as the filming location for “Parasyte: The Grey.”
Principal photography for the show reportedly started in August 2022 and was completed by the end of the same year for the first season. Yeon, the director, has conveyed his excitement about adapting the source material into a live-action film.
He stated in a press release, “In my twenties, Parasyte was a staple for those of us who were passionate about manga and animation.” “It’s a huge honor and a dream come true from my younger years to have the chance to build upon it and create something new.”
Parasyte: The Grey Filming Locations
Seoul Metropolitan Area, South Korea
“Parasyte: The Grey” is based on the expansive capital city of Seoul, South Korea, and the areas that surround it. The urban landscape of the metropolis is recognisable in the series’ opening moments, particularly when we track an extraterrestrial creature that descends from the sky and lands on a stadium roof.
The stadium in question is Seoul’s Olympic Stadium, which is situated at 25 Olympic-ro, Songpa-gu, in the city’s center. Additional shots depicting the terror of the first extraterrestrial attack were filmed in and around the busy streets, giving the impression that everyone in the city was under attack.
Actress Lee Jung-hyun received a coffee truck as a gift from the “Parasyte: The Grey” set while filming. In addition, she disclosed that she had given birth three months before the show’s action sequences were filmed and that she was working out with weights to prepare for the big weapon her character uses in the show.
