A six-vehicle car crash in Dallas over the past weekend triggered a police search for Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice, as reported by the Dallas Morning News. Rice issued a statement on social media Wednesday, expressing regret for the incident and assuming “full responsibility for my part in this matter:”
“Today I met with Dallas PD investigators regarding Saturday’s accident. I take full responsibility for my part in this matter and will continue to cooperate with the necessary authorities. I sincerely apologize to everyone impacted in Saturday’s accident.”
Rice has enlisted legal representation, and his attorney released a statement on Monday.
“On behalf of Rashee Rice, his thoughts are with everyone impacted by the automobile accident on Saturday,” attorney Royce West said, as reported by The Dallas Morning News. “Rashee is cooperating with local authorities and will take all necessary steps to address this situation responsibly.”
Rice Involved in Car Accident: Marijuana Found in Vehicle
A Friday report from WFAA Channel 8 in Dallas revealed the discovery of 10.8 grams of marijuana in the vehicle driven by Rice. If charged, this quantity would constitute a Class B misdemeanor in Texas, potentially resulting in up to 180 days of imprisonment and a fine not exceeding $2,000.
Dallas police spokeswoman Kristin Lowman explained that the preliminary investigation indicates that someone in a Chevrolet Corvette and someone in a Lamborghini were speeding in the far left lane when both drivers lost control. The Lamborghini veered onto the shoulder and “hit the center median wall, causing a chain reaction collision involving four other vehicles,” Lowman said.
During a press conference in Dallas on Thursday, attorney West confirmed that Rice was driving one of the vehicles involved in the accident.
“Mr. Rice wants to ensure it’s understood and appreciated that he’ll do everything in his power to restore normalcy in terms of injuries and property damage,” West stated, “He’ll take responsibility for helping them venture into this difficult situation. While we recognize that no one can fully erase the impact of an accident… we aim to support them in overcoming the memories associated with it.”
