Former President Donald Trump plans to attend the wake of NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller, who was tragically killed during a traffic stop.
This incident has garnered national attention, with Trump’s attendance reflecting his strong stance on supporting law enforcement, a key focus of his 2024 presidential campaign against Democratic incumbent Joe Biden.
Trump’s campaign spokesperson, Karoline Leavitt, expressed Trump’s appreciation for the invitation to join Officer Diller’s family and colleagues as they mourn his death. The wake is scheduled to take place in Massapequa on Long Island, although the NYPD has not yet confirmed Trump’s attendance.
Officer Diller, a three-year veteran of the force, was fatally shot below his bullet-resistant vest during the traffic stop in Queens. Two suspects have been apprehended in connection with the incident.
Throughout his campaign rallies, Trump has consistently highlighted issues of crime and public safety, often attributing them to Biden’s administration.
Despite crime statistics indicating a decrease in violent crime rates, Trump continues to advocate for restoring “law and order” and strengthening protections for law enforcement officers facing legal challenges.
Simultaneously, Trump faces multiple criminal trials as he pursues another presidential bid. He frequently criticizes New York State Attorney General Letitia James and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg for their legal actions against him, further emphasizing his stance on law enforcement issues.
In a tribute posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump expressed condolences to Officer Diller’s family and reaffirmed his support for law enforcement personnel who risk their lives daily.
The gesture aligns with Trump’s broader narrative of standing with law enforcement and addressing public safety concerns.
As Trump faces a polarizing campaign landscape, his participation in Officer Diller’s wake underscores the significance of law enforcement support in his political agenda.
