Ronda Rousey, after her match against Shayna Baszler at SummerSlam, left WWE. Despite participating in other promotions, she eventually retired. Interestingly, she had requested to turn heel in WWE, but her pleas were rejected.
Upon her return and Royal Rumble win in January 2022, plans for Ronda Rousey’s heel turn were in motion. However, the overwhelming positive reaction from the audience led to these plans being scrapped.
In her autobiography, “Our Fight,” releasing on April 4th, Rousey recounts her struggle to convince WWE for a heel turn after fan backlash. Despite her persistence, WWE insisted on scripted character development.
Expressing frustration with WWE’s approach, Rousey desired to express herself authentically but felt constrained by the company’s narrative control. She questioned WWE’s promises and felt disillusioned with her character’s trajectory.
Rousey’s journey to becoming a heel culminated in October 2022, forming an alliance with Baszler. However, their partnership soured when Baszler betrayed her, leading to Rousey’s eventual retirement from professional wrestling.
