Detroit Lions cornerback Cameron Sutton is currently wanted by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office in Florida for alleged domestic battery by strangulation, as announced on Wednesday. According to ESPN, police have been attempting to locate Sutton for several weeks without success.
The situation arose after police received a report on March 7 regarding an alleged domestic incident involving Sutton, who has since not responded to inquiries from law enforcement despite repeated attempts. The victim’s identity has not been disclosed.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has requested the public’s assistance in finding Sutton, mentioning that he may be driving a Jeep Grand Wagoneer with the license plate number FL-AZ33QB. Efforts to locate him at his Pinellas County residence have been unsuccessful.
The Detroit Lions released a statement acknowledging the legal situation involving Sutton and stated that they would continue to monitor the situation without providing further comment at this time.
Sutton, who signed a three-year, $33 million contract with the Lions just a year ago, started all 17 games in the 2023 season, recording six pass deflections and one interception. He played a crucial role in the Lions’ journey to the NFC Championship game. Before joining the Lions, Sutton spent six seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, accumulating eight interceptions and nearly 40 pass breakups in 39 starts.
In 2024, Sutton is scheduled to earn $12.7 million and is expected to start at cornerback alongside recent acquisition Carlton Davis for the Lions.
