Los Angeles Lakers’ standout forward Anthony Davis departed Saturday’s pivotal matchup against the Golden State Warriors due to what the team described as an “eye contusion,” leading to his early exit in the second half.
Sources reveal that Lakers’ Anthony Davis sustained a corneal abrasion, sidelining him in the locker room versus the Warriors.
Warriors rookie Trayce Jackson-Davis inadvertently poked Anthony Davis in the eye during a basket play with just over two minutes remaining in the first quarter.
Despite the discomfort, Davis soldiered through the remainder of the quarter with his left eye visibly shut.
At the break between quarters, he retreated to the locker room, where Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka was observed checking on his condition. Unfortunately, the Lakers made the decision to sideline Davis shortly after the halftime break.
During a postgame news conference, Lakers coach Darvin Ham disclosed that Anthony Davis was unable to see out of his left eye following the injury.
Despite efforts by the Lakers’ medical staff to address the issue during halftime, they were unable to clear him for a return to the game.
As a result, Davis’ availability for Monday’s matchup against the Atlanta Hawks remains uncertain. In a game of significant importance for both teams vying to climb the ranks in the competitive Western Conference, the Warriors emerged victorious with a 128-121 win over the Lakers.
This victory propelled the Warriors (35-31) slightly ahead of the Lakers (36-32) in ninth place and narrowed the gap between them and the eighth-place Dallas Mavericks to just 2 1/2 games.
It guaranteed the Warriors would at least split the head-to-head series, having won two out of three matchups, with one final showdown scheduled in Los Angeles during the last week of the season. Despite Davis exiting the game in the first quarter, the Lakers had maintained a six-point lead.
Stephen Curry, making a comeback after a nine-day hiatus due to an ankle sprain, showcased his prowess by leading the Warriors with 31 points, along with six rebounds and five assists.
Meanwhile, LeBron James delivered a stellar performance for the Lakers, scoring 40 points to tie his season high, and contributing eight rebounds and nine assists.
Additionally, the game was marked by a 20-minute delay in the closing moments due to a shot clock malfunction, prompted by multiple replay reviews.
Heading into the game, Anthony Davis boasted impressive averages of 24.7 points, 12.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.2 steals, and 2.4 blocks per game. Additionally, he ranked fifth in the NBA for total minutes played this season.
